A review of the YouPlayWePlay syndicate system

You Play We Play LogoYou Play We Play is an online lottery syndicate system that was launched in 2006 and gives players the opportunity to play in 4 well known lottery games as a syndicate member. This is a well established business so is it a quality site with a high end product or an also ran that is better left alone?

What games are on offer?

You can buy ticket shares in the UK lotto, Thunderball, Euro Millions or the Health Lottery. There is a maximum of 50 syndicate entries in each draw; this does not necessarily mean that 50 members are making up each syndicate though. If 50 members purchase one syndicate entry each then there will be 50 members making up a syndicate. However, if 40 members purchase a single syndicate entry each and one person purchases 10 syndicate entries, then there will be just 41 members making up the syndicate. I think you get the idea!

What are the costs?

To purchase a single ticket entry into one of the You Play We Play syndicates the costs are:

  • UK Lotto: £3
  • Euro Millions: £3
  • Thunderball: £2
  • Health Lottery: £2

You also have the option to buy a subscription to cover multiple draws but there is no cost benefit in doing this.

How do I pay for syndicate entries and how do I receive any winnings?

It would appear that you can only use a debit / credit card to pay for your syndicate entries. However, you are able to receive your winnings via Skrill (Moneybookers), by UK Bank Transfer or by a cheque.

YouPlayWePlay – Who are they?

This is a very good question; the “About Us” page mentions “Our Founder Members” but there is no mention of who these people are or what their background is. The mailing address for this company is a P.O. Box address in Birmingham, UK. This lack of information does not sit well with me!

What about customer service?

You Play We Play offer an email ticket support system but there is no telephone number to call which is never a good sign with an international lottery business. What’s more, there is no live support which is a standard feature for all the leading lottery retailers out there today.

What do I think of You Play We Play?

Good Points:

  • Syndicates give players improved odds
  • Reasonable value syndicate entry costs

Negative Points:

  • Only four lottery games offered
  • Who are they?
  • Limited customer support options
  • Terrible website
  • Very little online feed back about this company
  • No cost advantage in subscription service

Summary

For a company who has been around since 2006, You Play We Play sure does keep a low profile. This has probably got something to do with the lack of activity that the site attracts. As a lottery promoter (affiliate) I have been marketing this company, among others, since early 2012 via my websites. During this time I have welcomed 24 members, 9 of which have never even paid for a single syndicate entry! This does not really surprise me as the site is frankly horrific and overly complicated. What’s more, I know nothing about the people behind You Play We Play as they are far from upfront with such details on their website. There are some fantastic lottery retailers online today but You Play We Play is certainly not one of them. The site looks amateurish, is crammed with too much ‘frontend’ information and makes me want to click the back button the minute I land on it. With so many better lottery sites available, do not waste your time or money with this one! AVOID

Health Lottery Review

Thinking of playing the Health Lottery? Well, read this first…

Health Lottery ImageIs this the first time that you have come across the Health Lottery? Are you wondering what this lottery is all about? Well, let’s start by clearing up a few of the basics regarding this lottery game.  The Health Lottery was launched in the UK in October 2011, is not a National or State lottery but a collection of 51 local society lotteries, each one representing one or more local authority areas covering the entire United Kingdom. Each of these society lotteries has its turn at partaking in the Health Lottery draw each week so every community within England, Wales and Scotland benefits from the money raised from this game. These monies go to help health related good causes within the respective local society lottery regions. The Health Lottery draws take place twice weekly on a Wednesday and Saturday and offers a maximum jackpot prize of £100,000. With fairly decent jackpot winning odds of 1 in 2,118,760, players may be attracted but will the modest jackpot prize put some people off?

How to play?

To play the Health Lottery you can either pick up your ticket at one of the 37,000 high street retailers around the UK or online by visiting and registering an account at the Health Lottery. You simply select 5 numbers from 1-50 inclusive or you can opt for a Quick Pick Ticket where 5 numbers are randomly chosen for you. Each Health Lottery ticket costs £1 and enters you for a single draw.

Who can play?

This is very simple; if you do not live in Great Britain then you are not permitted to play the Health Lottery.

What can I win?

As already mentioned, the top prize in the Health Lottery is £100,000 for matching all your 5 chosen numbers. This is not a big jackpot when you compare it to the jackpots offered by the majority of National and State lotteries from around the world. However, the odds of hitting this jackpot are a whole lot better than most at 1 in 2,118,760. You also win cash prizes for matching 2, 3 and 4 numbers from a single entry. This is what you can win:

  • Match any 2 numbers and the Bonus Ball and win £10
  • Match any 3 numbers and win £20
  • Match any 3 numbers and the Bonus Ball and win £50
  • Match any 4 numbers and win £250
  • Match any 4 numbers and the Bonus Ball and win £10,000
  • Match all 5 numbers and win up to £100,000. The jackpot is always lower in the Wednesday draws

Who’s behind the Health Lottery?

The Health Lottery is operated by Northern and Shell and is regulated by the Gambling Commission in the UK.

Getting in touch with the Health Lottery

There is a comprehensive questions and answers section that can be found under the “help” tab at www.healthlottery.co.uk that will probably answer the majority of your queries. If however you do need to get in touch with the company, you will find a telephone number and email address under the “contact us” link on their website.

What Do I Think of the Health Lottery?

Plus Points:

  • Around 20% of ticket sales go to health related good causes.
  • Jackpot odds are a lot better than many National and State lotteries.
  • Backed by large television and publishing group.

Negative Points:

  • Jackpot of £100,000 is simply too small to appeal to all lottery players.
  • There is only one lottery game available to play.
  • Payouts for matching 2, 3 or 4 numbers are far lower than that of lottery betting companies such as Betfred Lotto.

Summary

In my opinion there is nothing particularly bad about the Health Lottery but it certainly does not excite me as a lottery product. Yes, a percentage of ticket sales go to help good health related causes which is always a nice thing but a maximum £100,000 jackpot is never going to generate massive excitement among the lottery playing community as a whole. I would therefore look to spend my lottery £s, $s or €s elsewhere as there are far better products in the market today.

Betfred Lotto Review

Is the Betfred lottery betting business a worthwhile bet?

Betfred Lottery BettingUnlike other services reviewed at Lotto Wonga, Betfred Lotto is somewhat different. With Betfred Lotto you are not actually buying lottery tickets or syndicate places but instead are betting on the outcome of lottery games.  Players are required to select five numbers from their chosen lottery’s pool of numbers, irrespective of how many numbers are required to be chosen if you were buying a ticket for that game in the traditional way. You are then paid out for each of the five numbers that you correctly match to the drawn numbers in the actual lottery draw. How much you win depends on how many numbers you match and the value of the stake that you have bet. For example, if you choose to place a £1 bet on the UK lotto and your 5 numbers show up in the actual draw, then you will win £150,000 as the odds of matching 5 numbers in this draw are 1 in 150,000. If your stake should be £5 then you will win £750,000 (£150,000 X 5).

Betfred Customer Service

Players can contact Betfred by telephone and email and there is also a 24/7 live chat facility so you can get in touch with them as and when you need to.

What Do I Think of Betfred Lotto?

Plus Points:

  • Large company with good reputation
  • Good selection of lotteries to bet on
  • High payouts for matching just 3 numbers

Negative Points:

  • Not actually playing in a lottery; just betting on the outcome
  • No life changing jackpots at stake

Summary

Lottery betting is not something that I have tried before but it seems to be pretty big on the internet today. You can earn a very nice slab of cash for just matching 3 numbers in any of the Betfred Lotto games but you are never going to win more than £150,000 on a £1 stake. As a lottery promoter (affiliate) I know all too well how big jackpots drive sales in traditional lotto games where tickets are purchased. I am therefore unsure of just how popular this sort of lotto betting will become with only modest top prizes available.

If you have taken part in lottery betting before, especially with Betfred Lotto, I would very much appreciate your comments (good and bad) below.

$636 Million Mega Millions Jackpot is Finally Won

On Tuesday December 17th the $636,000,000 Mega Millions jackpot was finally won by two very lucky ticket holders in California and Georgia. The winning numbers were 8, 14, 17, 20 and 39, with a Megaball of 7.

It is not really surprising that the jackpot has grown so big when you consider how ridiculous the odds are. Prior to October 2013 the odds were approximately 1 in 176 million which were bad enough. However, on October 4th 2013 the Mega Millions operators increased the pool of numbers that players choose from. As a result the Mega Millions odds are now 1 in 259 million. It is therefore probably not that surprising that the jackpot that was finally won yesterday rolled over for 22 consecutive draws. I fully expect jackpots of this enormity to be a far more regular occurrence in future.
