I think that so many lottery players fail to ever compare lottery odds and instead focus on the size of the jackpot. Lets face it folks, any of the jackpots offered by the games in this list will be sufficient to change your lives dramatically. So, doesn’t it just make perfect sense to go for a game offering better odds?

The two biggest jackpots in history were both won in 2012; $640 million in the Mega Millions and $587.5 million in the Powerball. These are of course wonderful payouts for the lucky winners but how on earth did the jackpots get so big in the first place? The answer to this is simple; the odds for both games are so poor (see table) that week after week no one hit the jackpot and so the jackpot kept rolling over to the following draw. As the jackpots grew in size more and more greedy individuals purchased ever increasing numbers of tickets and eventually both jackpots went.

If you played the Belgium lotto instead of the Mega Millions, for example, you would have a 33 times better chance of picking up the jackpot. Admittedly the jackpot is a lot smaller at around €2.5 million but surely sufficient to change your life forever.

If you are serious about winning a lottery jackpot, it really does make sense to do a lottery odds comparison and stick with the games offering the best lottery odds. It is all too easy to get sucked into playing a lottery game based purely on the size of the jackpot prize. Remain disciplined, play only the games offering the best odds and over time you will know that you are putting your lottery dollars to the best use possible. If you want to take this lottery odds game even more seriously then you should also look in to playing in lottery syndicates as this is a tried and tested way of boosting your lotto winning chances.
